14 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH ELVIS NYATHI’S DEATH

7 men appeared in court on Tuesday.

The accused are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, four counts of assault GBH, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and extortion.

Nyathi (43) was killed in a mob justice incident in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg on 6 April by residents who accused him of committing crimes in the area.

Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says the case was postponed to 22 April for the accused to apply for legal representation.

“The group is alleged to have robbed some of the victims of their belongings and demanded money in exchange for the release of those that they captured. Initially, 14 people were arrested, but only seven are charged; there was insufficient evidence against the others.”
