Snowfall continues, some roads in Beijing are covered with snow and traffic is slow

This round of heavy snowfall is still continuing. During today’s morning rush hour, many Beijing residents braved the snow to travel.  The reporter noticed that due to the continued snowfall, there was obvious snow accumulation on the roads in some urban areas of Beijing, and vehicles were traveling relatively slowly.



According to data from the official website of the Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission, today’s morning peak pressure has increased compared with yesterday, reaching a moderate congestion level. In addition, the traffic pressure on various ring roads and connecting lines has also increased.  When driving on Guangqumenwai Street, Nanmofang Road, Fourth Ring Road, Third Ring Road and other roads, the reporter found that due to the continued snowfall, there was obvious snow accumulation on some roads, the road surface was slippery, and the vehicles were moving slowly.  It is recommended that citizens who are not familiar with snow driving conditions try to choose public transportation.


According to the forecast of the meteorological department, there will still be significant snowfall today. The snowfall is expected to become more obvious in the afternoon, and will mainly be light snow or sporadic light snow after nightfall.



The Beijing traffic control department reminds citizens that urban areas are currently affected by continuous snowfall, and the roads are slippery, visibility is low, and traffic accidents are prone to occur. Drivers are advised to pay special attention to reducing the speed, increasing the distance from the vehicle in front, and not to swerve when traveling.  , do not brake suddenly, reduce merging and overtaking, and ensure driving safety.  At the same time, it is also recommended that everyone minimize driving on mountainous roads.


Regarding expressways, the reporter learned from the first maintenance company that after overnight cleaning, except for some sections of the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway that are currently closed, the other expressways remain open normally.  Affected by the snowfall, the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway has been temporarily closed from Dayangfang to the city boundary out of Beijing, and from the city boundary to Majuqiao into Beijing.
On the East Fourth Ring Road in Beijing, there are more vehicles on the road and driving is slower. 


Up to now, all staff of the First Maintenance Company have maintained the highest level of readiness for more than 40 hours. More than 2,000 snow removal workers and more than 300 inspection personnel have been dispatched for this snow and ice removal work, as well as multi-functional snow removal vehicles, snow melting vehicles,  There are more than 1,300 vehicles and equipment for snow removal operations such as spreaders and snow shovels, and more than 100 inspection vehicles.


On the basis of strengthening inspections in the snow, the first maintenance company has arranged for the spread of snow melting agents and snow melting liquids. At the same time, it has adopted a variety of snow removal methods to give full play to the effectiveness of ground roller brushes to ensure smooth passage of vehicles during the morning peak.
