BOTSWANA DONATES RELIEF ITEMS TO MALAWI

BOTSWANA DONATES 21 TONNES OF ASSORTED RELIEF ITEMS

…dispatches first consignment weighing 15 tons

The Republic of Botswana has donated 21 tons of assorted relief items to people affected by Tropical Cyclone Freddy (TCF).

The first consignment, which arrived on Friday (24th March, 2023) through Chileka International Airport consists of food and non food items.

Handing over the donation, Assistant Minister for State President Dumezweni Mthimkhulu said the donation is a sign of a cordial relationship between the two countries.

“Our Ministers came to do the assessment and this donation is in response to that.

“We are aware of the needs of the affected people hence our dispatching of 15 metric tonnes of food and non-food items to assist people in camps,” he said.

Receiving the donation, Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Moses Kunkuyu thanked the government of Botswana for the kind gesture.

He said the two presidents have a very good relationship and it is not surprising that the donation has been made with urgency.

“On behalf of President Chakwera, I thank the government of Botswana for reaching out with urgency; having seen for themselves the situation on the ground. We are so grateful,” said Kunkuyu.

The remaining six tonnes will be in the country on Saturday, 25th March, 2023.
