Police in Chipata District in Eastern Province of Zambia have launched a manhunt for a man who was captured on mobile phone raping a woman.

Provincial Acting Police Commanding Officer Davis Simwanza confirmed investigations were instituted to arrest culprits involved in the incident that occurred last Saturday at the city’s golf course.
Mr. Simwanza has urged members of the public to help the police with information of the suspected man and his accomplices that took advantage of the unknown woman.
Meanwhile Chipata Gender Activist Ruth Grand Phiri has described the act as an affront on women’s rights.
She expressed dismay that while women are expected to protect one another however in the video some were heard cheering the rapist.
The unhappy gender activist has reported the matter to the police as the identity and whereabouts of the victim are unknown.
In the two minutes five second video recorded by a bystander some men are seen assisting the rapist take advantage of the victim who was seen trying to flee the scene but was overpowered by the crowd and the attacker.
The Non-Governmental Gender Organization Coordinating Council – NGOCC has described as barbaric the act shown in a video of a Zambia woman being allegedly raped in full view of onlookers.
NGOCC Chairperson Mary Mulenga has called on police and the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority -ZICTA- to ensure all those involved be brought to book.
Mrs. Mulenga has expressed sadness that even her fellow women were captured cheering on a man, who was seen forcing himself on a helpless woman.
She further questioned how society condoned such acts as depicted in the video.
Police have so far arrested two suspects in connection with a video which has gone viral showing a man allegedly raping a woman with the help of onlookers in a public place in Chipata.
