Coup d’état in Guinea and the overthrow of president Alpha Condé
A Coup d’état has been effective in Guinea Conakry today Sunday, September 5, 2021. President Alpha Condé was arrested by the mutineers.
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, a former legionary of the French army who was recalled to Guinea to head the GPS created in 2018 and his men carried the act. Mamady Doumboya the Commander of Guinea’s Special Forces released a statement on national TV announcing the coup that led to the arrest of Alpha Conde.
In the early morning of Sunday, September 05, 2021, heavy gunfire was heard near the presidential palace.
In a video announcement, the soldiers confirmed that Alpha was not harmed but refused to respond.
According to Guineanews, many other members of Alpha’s administration have been arrested as well.
